Sony MDR7506 Professional Large Diaphragm Headphone

8.3Our Score

The Sony MDR7506 has been in studios since the early '90s because it tells you the truth: flat, mid-focused sound that exposes bad mixes and podcast plosives alike. There's no mic, no Bluetooth, and no bass flattery — this is a work tool for editing, tracking, and monitoring, not a commuter headphone. The coiled cable and folding design are built for the desk.

Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 Wireless Over-Ear Bluetooth Headphones with Multi-Sensory Bass, Active Noise Cancelling, Up to 60 Hours Battery, Microphone for iPhone Android - Bone

8.2Our Score

Skullcandy's Crusher ANC 2 is built for one listener: the bass lover who wants to physically feel the low end. The adjustable haptic bass slider is a genuine party trick, and the ANC, multipoint, and 60-hour battery are competent support acts. At $200, though, you're in Sony and Bose territory with clearly less refined noise cancelling — this is an entertainment purchase, not a neutral one.

The Short Version

Three deals are genuine reductions against our own records. The Sony WH-1000XM5, the Sony MDR7506 and the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 are all at the lowest prices we have recorded for them.

Two are not discounts in any meaningful sense. One is a cent below where it has sat for a month. Another is exactly the price we have recorded every time we looked.

Most of them expire at 2:59am Eastern on Labor Day morning, which is to say before most of the people they are aimed at wake up.

How We Checked

Every time this site refreshes a price, the previous value is written to a dated file. That has been happening since 27 July, weekly at first and daily since the start of September. It is not a market-wide price tracker — it is a record of what we saw, when we looked, for the products we link.

That matters because a struck-through list price is not a historical price. It is a figure the seller nominates. Amazon shows the WH-1000XM5 against $399.99, which makes $198 look like half price. We recorded it at $248 on five separate occasions across four weeks, and never higher. The reduction is real, and it is a fifth off, not a half.

The honest limitation: these are periodic snapshots, not a continuous feed. A price could have moved between two of our readings and moved back. Where we only have two or three observations we say so rather than drawing a conclusion.

Sony WH-1000XM5

Our records: $248 on 28 July, 3, 10, 23 and 26 August. Then $199.99 on 31 August, and $198 since.

This is the clearest genuine reduction in the current set. Five readings at one price across a month, then a step down that has held for a week. Fifty dollars off what it actually cost, rather than two hundred off a number nobody was charging.

It remains the most complete cancelling headphone most people should consider, and our XM5 versus XM6 comparison explains why the newer model is not automatically the upgrade.

Sony MDR7506 Professional

Our records: $113 on 3, 10 and 19 August. $98 since 6 September.

A studio monitor that has been in production for decades, at the lowest figure we have recorded. Amazon's own comparison price of $114.99 is close to what we actually observed, which is worth noting — this listing is not inflating the baseline.

Closed-back, wired, flat and unglamorous. The studio headphones for home recording page covers where it fits.

Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2

Our records: $200.25 in early August, $209.99 on 10 August, then $169.99 since 5 September.

A real reduction of about a fifth against what we observed, though Amazon presents it against $239.99, which we have never seen it sell for. Stock is thin at this price.

The haptic bass is the reason to buy it and the reason to avoid it, depending entirely on whether you want to feel low frequencies in your jaw.

The Ones That Are Just the Price

Nothing Ear (a), badged "Limited time deal" at $59. We have recorded it at $59 on 25 August, 6 September and 7 September. Every observation, the same figure. Amazon compares it against $67.98. It is a decent earbud at $59 and it was a decent earbud at $59 a fortnight ago.

TAGRY wireless earbuds, badged "Limited time deal" at $25.98. Our first reading, on 3 August, was $25.99. It has been $25.98 ever since. The discount, measured against what we actually saw, is one cent.

Soundcore V20i at $26.99, down from $29.99 where we recorded it three times. That one is real — about ten percent — but it expires within hours of this being written, which is a reasonable illustration of why deal pages age badly.

What Expires When

The Sony pair and the Skullcandy end at 06:59 UTC on 7 September — 2:59am Eastern. Labor Day sales that finish before breakfast on Labor Day are common and rarely mentioned.

Nothing Ear (a) runs a further day. The TAGRY badge runs to 12 September, which is a long window for a limited-time offer.

What We Would Actually Do

Buy the WH-1000XM5 if you were going to buy one anyway. A fifth off a flagship, verified against our own records, is a genuine reason to move.

Ignore the percentages on everything else and check what the product cost recently. Our deals page lists what is live at any moment with the same filters used here, and it is honest about ending times.

And treat a struck-through price as marketing rather than history. Of the six products examined here, Amazon's comparison figure was close to what we observed exactly once.
